The Glasgow Distillery has revealed three new limited-edition single malt whiskies released under its Glasgow 1770. All with an age statement of 5 Years Old, the whiskies have been finished in rare wine casks, and join the distillery's Small Batch Series.
The three releases are Glasgow 1770 Constantia Wine Cask Matured, Syrah Wine Cask Matured, and Pineau des Charentes Wine Cask Matured. All three have undergone a finishing period of one year and 10 months in their wine cask.
Constantia Wine Cask Matured (56.6% ABV) has been finished in South African Constantia dessert wine casks, which Glasgow Distillery says brings notes of apricot, peach, apricot, grapefruit, and dark chocolate.
Syrah Wine Cask Matured (59.3% ABV) is finished in Greek Syrah red wine casks from the island of Evia, which the distillery says adds berry notes including blackberry, raspberry, and strawberry jam, as well as dark chocolate and pink peppercorn.
The only peated release in the trio is Pineau des Charentes Wine Cask Matured (58.7% ABV), which was matured initially in first-fill ex-bourbon casks before its finish in a French Pineau des Charentes wine cask. The distillery says it has notes of toffee apple, maple-smoked ham, walnuts, and orange zest.
Mike Hayward, founder, commented: “At the Glasgow Distillery, we are always looking for ways to push boundaries and explore new dimensions of flavour. These three releases showcase the remarkable impact that different wine casks can have on our whisky, bringing bold and gratifying flavour characteristics.
“Having recently celebrated 10 years of whisky production, it seems fitting to release perhaps our most experimental whiskies yet whilst reflecting on a decade of innovation, craftsmanship, and dedication to creating exceptional single malts.”
The three new bottlings will be available via specialist whisky retailers from 13 May, with an RRP of £59 each.
