This week, our cocktail selection is the Godfather. Named for the classic film with Marlon Brando and Al Pacino, and popularised in the 1970s, this Scotch cocktail is a little bit retro, but not so much that it can't be a classy choice for your weekend serve. It's also an appropriately named selection if you're looking for a drink to mix up for a father figure in your life.
The Godfather is a particularly simple cocktail, with just two ingredients. It's similar to an Old Fashioned (booze-led, short, added sweetness) except instead of sugar, it's amaretto that lends its sweetness to the mix.
The classic spirit for this drink is a blended Scotch, but what whisky you choose for this is up to you — it's the main part of the cocktail, so certainly pick something you enjoy. We suggest contrasting the almondy sweetness of the amaretto with a smoky Scotch (something subtly smoky like Johnnie Walker Black Label, maybe, or your preferred Islay whisky).
Ingredients:
60ml Scotch
20ml amaretto
Method:
Pour all ingredients into an Old Fashioned glass filled with ice. Stir gently and garnish with orange peel.
